How do I mine a block on Linux? (Scrypt PoW/PoS)

Use the following instructions to mine a block on Ubuntu Server 18.04.

Update your Ubuntu machine.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Install the required dependencies.

sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool autotools-dev autoconf pkg-config libboost-all-dev libssl1.0-dev libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler libminiupnpc-dev libqrencode-dev libdb-dev libdb++-dev make libcurl4-openssl-dev

Note: replace “examplecoin” with the name of your coin.
Note: replace “6gs39011kick8xmqutpkrvi92xx5kwev4ykanlv1ls0ouuae5x” with the coinID of your coin.

Download the daemon from MyCoin. (Available for a paid coin)

wget "https://dl.walletbuilders.com/download?customer=6gs39011kick8xmqutpkrvi92xx5kwev4ykanlv1ls0ouuae5x&filename=examplecoin-daemon-linux.tar.gz" -O examplecoin-daemon-linux.tar.gz

Extract the tar file.

tar -xzvf examplecoin-daemon-linux.tar.gz

Install the daemon.

sudo mv examplecoind /usr/bin/

Create the config file.

mkdir $HOME/.examplecoin
nano $HOME/.examplecoin/examplecoin.conf

Paste the following lines in examplecoin.conf.

rpcuser=rpc_examplecoin
rpcpassword=69c863e3356d3dae95df454a1
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
listen=1
server=1
txindex=1
daemon=1

Start the daemon.

examplecoind

Use the following commands to compile and install minerd.

wget https://github.com/pooler/cpuminer/releases/download/v2.5.0/pooler-cpuminer-2.5.0.tar.gz
tar -xzvf pooler-cpuminer-2.5.0.tar.gz
cd cpuminer-2.5.0/
./configure CFLAGS="-O3"
make
sudo cp minerd /usr/bin

Create a file named mine.sh and paste the following text into mine.sh.

minerd --url=http://127.0.0.1:4210 --userpass=rpc_user:8cde5e64e7297b1cb4c495d1a

Save the file mine.sh.

Make the file executable.

chmod +x mine.sh

Execute mine.sh to start mining your first block.

./mine.sh

It will take about +/- 30 minutes to mine your first block, depending on your computer hardware.
